Well, it happened. My daughter Anna read Are You There God, It's Me Margaret. Although I had previously been worried about the pre-pms thing, I let that one go when her moodiness broke (as I suspected she had been
in pain, suffering through two new teeth pushing out her baby incisors).

Funny thing is - the whole point of Judy Blume's infamous book totally went over her head. I asked her what she liked about the book, she talked about a part where the boys were making fun of the girls. I told her my favorite part had been the "we must, we must" part. She looked at me funny. "Mom", she said, "I didn't get that - what's a bust?". I told her. She covered her mouth in disbelief. And we laughed.

Then, she asked..."and what is a period?". Finally, I was going to get a chance to tell her that all girls lay eggs. I opted for a simpler truth...laced with a few funny half truths, and followed up with a book so that she could find out some answers on her own. I think she read and re-read that book 100 times already, asking lots of questions along the way.

My baby is growing up...
